On-Site Registration will be open from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2014. Registration will open again on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at 7:00 a.m. and continues to be open throughout the conference. The Clinical Conference will commence on Wednesday morning, March 19, 2014, at 7:45 a.m. and includes an evening welcome reception, special interest luncheons, general session, breakout sessions, exhibits, networking opportunities, and social events.

Registration cancellations will be accepted in writing only. A refund will be provided until Friday, February 28, 2014. If received by February 28, 2014, AOASM will apply a $50 administrative fee, and refund the remainder of your registration after the meeting. Student/Resident/Fellow Luncheon
Back by popular demand, a student/resident/fellow luncheon hosted by the AOASM will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2014 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. To register, please indicate your attendance on the registration form. Note: Please sign up for this event, only if you are a Student/Resident/Fellow.

AOASM Off-Site Event: Spring Training Game
Baltimore Orioles vs. Pittsburgh Pirates
Thursday, March 20, 2014
Join fellow AOASM attendees attend a spring training game, Baltimore Orioles vs. Pittsburgh Pirates in Bradenton, Florida. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 p.m., with gates opening to all fans at 6:00 p.m. This year the AOASM secured a group reservation on a Private Party Deck for up to 70 people. Pre-registration and an additional fee of $50 per person are required for this special party area. This fee includes a game ticket, reserved seating in the private deck area, refreshments and shuttle service to-and-from the ballpark. Shuttle buses will leave the hotel at 5:30 p.m. sharp and estimate to be back to the hotel following the game around 11:30 p.m. To register yourself (and your guests), please indicate your attendance on the registration form. Note: Registration for this event is on a first come, first serve basis as limited ticketing is only available for 70 people due to space in the deck area.

The Russell M. Wright Memorial Keynote Lecture Luncheon
The Rusty Wright Memorial Lecture will be held on Friday, March 21, 2014. The luncheon will be located at the Westin Hotel and the guest speakers will be from the medical staff of the Pittsburgh Pirates Baseball team. The luncheon is scheduled from 12:45 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Pre-registration and an additional fee of $10 per person are required. This fee includes: a ticket to the luncheon and each guest will receive CME for attending the guest speaker portion of the luncheon. To register yourself (and your guests), please indicate your attendance on the registration form.

Award of Fellow Banquet Celebration
Please make every effort to attend the AOASM Award of Fellow Banquet on Friday, March 21, 2014, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The dinner celebration will include a ticket to the banquet, an award ceremony, an induction of the AOASM officers, and a cash bar. Cocktail reception will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $55 each and guests are welcome to register and attend. You will need to purchase a ticket for each guest attending the banquet. To register yourself (and your guests), please check the AOASM Award of Fellow Banquet Celebration on the registration form.

AOASM Casino Royale Reception
Take a chance and join us for the First Annual AOASM Casino Night fundraiser following the Award of Fellow Banquet, on Friday, March 21, 2014, from 8:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Enjoy an evening of friendly gambling, mingling with fellow attendees and a cash bar. Dealer run gaming tables include craps, blackjack, roulette, and poker. Come try your luck and win prizes, including tickets to shows, gift cards, sports memorabilia, and more.  Raffles for door prizes will be held throughout the evening as well. Tickets are $30 each (includes one raffle ticket and playing chips).  All proceeds will be donated to the AOASM. A discounted rate of $25 each will be offered to anyone that is attending the Fellow Banquet. To register for this event, please check the AOASM Casino Royale Reception on your registration form along with the number of guests.

AOASM FUN RUN (no charge)
Saturday, March 22, 2014 – 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m.
Meet your fellow attendees in the hotel lobby at 6:15 a.m. to enjoy a morning run in Tampa, Florida. The specific route will be communicated to participants on-site. To register yourself (and your guests), please check the AOASM Fun Run on the registration form. There is no fee to participate. 

Continuing Education Credits

AOA Credits*
AOASM has requested that the AOA Council on Continuing Medical Education approve this program up to 25.0 hours of AOA Category 1-A CME credits. Approval is currently pending. Register for continuing education credits by checking ALL of the applicable boxes on the registration form. 

BOC Credits*
The American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine is recognized by the Board of Certification, Inc. to offer continuing education for certified athletic trainers. This program has been approved for up to 25.0 hours of continuing education credits.

Physical Therapy Credits
Continuing education (CE) requirements for physical therapists vary from state to state. Most states that mandate CE for renewal of licensure have a process in place where an individual PT/PTA licensee may petition directly to the State licensing agency for acceptance of a continuing education course. Check with your state licensing board for the proper procedures and forms.

Pre-Conference Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Workshops

The basic musculoskeletal ultrasound course is designed for those who have limited experience with musculoskeletal ultrasound. This hands-on half-day course, is designed to introduce basic ultrasound principles and provide the participants the opportunity to learn how ultrasound could be used in their practice.  This course will be taught and practiced on each other using SonoSite ultrasound machines covering major body regions and reviewing the basic protocols for examining the various joints of the body. Note: Space is limited to 40 participants and registration will be on a first come, first serve basis.

The advanced musculoskeletal ultrasound course is designed for those who already use musculoskeletal ultrasound in their practice.  This live, one-day cadaver lab course will expand your ability to integrate advanced musculoskeletal ultrasound techniques  into your clinical practice. It is designed to briefly review basic ultrasound principles and provide an opportunity for participants to expand their overall knowledge and skills in MSK.  This course will be taught by leading musculoskeletal ultrasound experts and includes interactive lectures, case presentations, and advanced musculoskeletal imaging techniques.  This hands-on workshop using cadavers parts will enhance skills for performing ultrasound-guided interventional procedures. Attendees will practice injecting the various joints of the body including the upper extremity (shoulder, elbow, wrist, hand) and lower extremity (hip, knee, foot and ankle).  This course is brought to you at a fraction of the cost of any commercial course and is intended for all skill levels.  The faculty will teach the most basic injections to the most advance interventional procedures. Note: Registration will be on a first come, first serve basis. Space is limited to 40 participants and is available only to those who have already taken a MSK US beginner course or who has at least 6 months clinical experience with MSK US. (This course is also open to anyone that takes the beginner course through AOASM on Monday, March 17. Pre-registration to attend both workshops are welcomed.)

AOASM works diligently to provide attendees with the most convenient hotels at a good value. AOASM contracts with the hotel to hold sleeping rooms for use by our attendees. If AOASM does not meet the room block, penalty fees could be incurred. When reserving your room via phone, please use the toll-free number and refer to the AOASM 2014 (American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine) in order to be eligible for the discounted rate. The hotel reservations deadline is February 28, 2014. Room rates cannot be guaranteed after that date. The AOASM discounted room rate is $169 single/double occupancy. Additional person occupancy (up to 4 ppl) is $20 per person. The room rate is exclusive of occupancy tax. Quoted rates will be offered, based on availability, to all attendees 2 days prior and 2 days after the conference dates (3/16/14 to 3/24/14). RESERVE YOUR ROOM EARLY in case the room block at the hotel sells out prior to February 28, 2014. Rooms will be reserved on a first come, first serve basis. Check-in time is 3:00 p.m. and checkout time is 12:00 p.m.

Hotel Cancellation policy: Guest must notify Hotel by 6:00 p.m. (hotel time) to not forfeit the one-night room rate plus tax deposit.

Ground Transportation

Sports Medicine Examination for Certification of Added Qualifications (CAQ)

AOASM will be offering the Sports Medicine Examination for Certification of Added Qualifications (CAQ) from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 18, 2014. The Recertification Exam will also be offered from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. You must pre-register with the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) to sit for either exam. AOASM does not coordinate the registration for the exam. Case Presentations & Research Abstracts

It is the Committee's goal to have all Sports Medicine Fellowship Programs participating with a poster presentation, a case podium presentation, or a research podium presentation. 

The deadline for case presentations are due Sunday, January 19, 2014 and the deadline for research abstract submissions are due Sunday, January 26, 2014, Submissions with AOASM required paperwork should be sent via email to Brooke Miller, bmiller@reesgroupinc.com no later than 11:00 p.m. CST.


The AOASM understands the importance of student members and has asked physician members for scholarship contributions to cover the $100 registration fee for this conference. Each contribution will go into the “support-a-student” fund. The $100 student registration scholarships will only be awarded to students who present posters or are scheduled to give a presentation during the conference, demonstrating his or her interest and initiative in the field of osteopathic sports medicine. If you are interested in participating, you can donate on the 2014 Registration form or mail your checks to the AOASM National Office.
