Course Description: The Basic Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound for the Lower Extremity Course is designed for those who would like to gain more experience with diagnostic scanning and have a practical hands-on experience with highly experienced faculty. This course will review the commonly recommended AMSSM / AIUM Guides for the completion of a knee and ankle scanning exam. This course will focus on the normal anatomy and how to scan it. The emphasis will be on scanning technique & probe position. Hip will be covered in the advanced course.

Course Description: The Intermediate/Advanced Diagnostic Musculoskeletal Ultrasound for the Lower Extremity Course is designed take the next step for those who have some basic musculoskeletal ultrasound scanning experience and would like to take their game to the next level. This course will start out with review of the commonly recommended AMSSM / AIUM Guides for the completion of a hip exam. It will then focus on multiple specialty topics and present clinical vignettes from our our highly experienced faculty. This course will also focus on the normal anatomy & how to scan these topics, but with more detail, while also presenting some pathology examples or injection examples where applicable. The emphasis will continue to be on scanning technique & probe position.

Registration for the Annual Meeting will open in February 2017. On-site Registration will be open late afternoon on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, for a couple of hours, and will open again on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, at 7:00 a.m. and will continue to be open throughout the conference. The Clinical Conference will commence on the morning of Wednesday, May 3, 2017, and includes an evening welcome reception, special interest luncheons, general sessions, breakout sessions, an exhibit hall, networking opportunities, and social events.

Join your colleagues at the Welcome Reception on Wednesday evening, May 3, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., in the Exhibit Hall. Take this opportunity to visit with colleagues, attend the Poster Sessions, and meet the Exhibitors. Everyone is invited to attend.

Boxing Workout Anyone?

Need to blow off some steam? Punch it out! Learn some boxing techniques from Scott Brooks IDSA certified personal trainer) that you can incorporate into your workouts! New this year, AOASM will be offering two exciting boxing exercise classes. Mark your schedule to join fellow attendees and Scott for a quick 45 minute workout on Wednesday, May 3 (12:00 noon) and Friday, May 5 (7:00 a.m.).

Student/Resident/Fellow Luncheon

Back by popular demand, a student/resident/ fellow luncheon hosted by the AOASM will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017, from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m., followed by a workshop from 1:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.

The AOASM is pleased to have Susan Spencer, Former General Manager of the NFL Philadelphia, Eagles as a guest speaker at this year’s Annual Meeting. Mark your calendar to join us on Thursday, May 4 from 3:30 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Susan Spencer is an accomplished entrepreneur, with a long record of outstanding management and business leadership across an impressively diverse career. She is a successful business owner, recognized author, corporate lawyer, and a sought-after lecturer.

The Russell M. Wright Memorial Keynote Luncheon

The Rusty Wright Memorial Lecture will be held on Friday, May 5, 2017. This year, the luncheon will be located at The Wheelhouse: High Roller in The Linq Hotel connected to the Harrah’s Hotel. The guest speaker will be Forrest Griffin, Ultimate Fighting Challenge’s VP for Athlete Development. This keynote luncheon is scheduled from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. Pre-registration and an additional fee of $40 per person are required. This fee includes: a ticket to the luncheon, CME for attending the lecture, and a ticket to ride the High Roller Ferris wheel on the Las Vegas Strip. (The High Roller ticket is an “open ticket” available to use anytime during the Annual Meeting between Monday, May 1, and Monday, May May 8, 2017. If your guests do not want to attend the luncheon, the AOASM will offer the discounted high roller “open ticket” for purchase of $25 each.

Award of Fellow Banquet

Please make every effort to attend the AOASM Award of Fellow Banquet on Friday, May 5, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The banquet will include a ticket to a cocktail reception (6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.), the dinner event, an award ceremony, an induction of the AOASM officers, and an AOA update. Tickets are $60 each, and guests are welcome to register and attend.

The AOASM Cinco de Mayo Pool Party Reception

Back by popular demand, join fellow AOASM attendees on the pool-deck at the Harrah’s Hotel for a fun cocktail reception and appetizers to celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Friday, May 5 from 8:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at this year’s Annual Meeting.   • Donate $100: The $100 student registration scholarships will only be awarded to students who present posters or are scheduled to give a presentation during the conference, demonstrating his or her interest and initiative in the field of osteopathic sports medicine. Educational Credits

AOA Credits*

AOASM has requested that the AOA Council on Continuing Medical Education approve this program up to 23.50 hours of AOA Category 1-A CME credits. Approval is pending. Register for continuing education credits by checking ALL of the applicable boxes on the registration form.

BOC Credits*

The American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine is recognized by the Board of Certification, Inc., to offer continuing education for certified athletic trainers. This program has been approved for up to 22.0 hours of continuing education credits.

Physical Therapy Credits

Continuing education (CE) requirements for physical therapists vary from state to state. Most states that mandate CE for renewal of licensure have a process in place where an individual PT/PTA licensee may petition directly to the state-licensing agency for acceptance of a continuing education course. Check with your state licensing board for the proper procedures and forms.

Examinations

Sports Medicine Examination for Certification of Added Qualifications (CAQ)

AOASM will be offering the Sports Medicine Examination for Certification of Added Qualifications (CAQ) from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. The Recertification Exam will also be offered from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. You must pre-register with the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) to sit for either exam. AOASM does not coordinate the registration for the exam. On-site check-in will begin at 12:00 noon and seating/instructions at 12:45 p.m. For more information, please visit the AOASM website at http://aoasm.org/boardcert.cfm.

Hotel Accommodations & Reservations

This year the AOASM 2017 Clinical Conference is being held at the Harrah’s Hotel & Casino, located at the center of the Las Vegas Strip, that is known as the heart location of everything. The AOASM encourages all attendees at the Clinical Conference to book their reservation at the headquarters hotel and to plan to book your reservation today!

AOASM works diligently to provide attendees with the most convenient hotels at a good value, and the AOASM contracts with the hotel to hold sleeping rooms for use by our attendees. If AOASM does not meet the room block, penalty fees could be incurred. Please help AOASM keep costs down by making your reservations at Harrah’s Hotel and Casino; 3475 S Las Vegas Blvd. South, Las Vegas, NV 889109; Reservations Toll-Free: +1-888-458-8471. Attendees may book their reservation via online complimentary (link below) or call the hotel directly for a small fee.

When reserving your room via phone, please use the toll-free number and refer to the AOASM 2017 Clinical Conference or use the group code to identify the discounted rate, SHAOA7, in order to be eligible for the discounted rate. All reservations made through the call center will result in a charge of $15, plus tax per room reservation.
(NOTE: This fee will not be applied to reservation made via the Internet online.)

To reserve your room online, please go to the AOASM annual conference website and click on the Clinical Conference direct reservation page labeled: American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine Hotel Reservations.  In order to confirm a room assignment for attendees, the hotel requires a (first or last) night’s pre-payment deposit when reserving your room. The credit card on file will be billed immediately to the cardholder’s account. Hotel accepts, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, or Diners Club.

The hotel reservations cut-off deadline is April 7, 2017. Room rates cannot be guaranteed after that date.

New this year, the AOASM discounted room rate at Harrah’s Hotel and Casino Hotel has two rates pending the day of stay. Sunday, April 30 through Thursday, May 4, the rate is $84.00 per night (plus tax and daily resort fee) for single or double occupancy. Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6 the rate increases to $109.00 per night (plus tax and daily resort fee) for single and double occupancy. The current Clark Country room tax is 12% (tax is subject to change.)

The daily resort fee is $29.00 per room. This fee includes the following:

  • Unlimited local phone calls (no long distance or international calls)
  • Up to four guest admissions per day to the fitness center (does not include use of the spa)
  • In-Room Internet access to include four (4) devices per room per day

Hotel Policies:

  • Age Policy - Each guest room must have at least one registered guest twenty-one (21) years of age or older.
  • Additional Person – Additional persons will be charged a rate of $15.00 per person, per night, with a maximum of four (4) person, per guest room.
  • Early Departure – Any departures after 11:00 AM are subject to the full day charge. (Check-in time is 4:00 p.m., and check-out time is 11:00 a.m.)
  • Cancellation (or changes) – Cancellation (or changes to your reservation) within 72 hours of your scheduled arrival date or failure to arrive on check-in date will result in one (1) night’s guest room rate plus tax.

McCarran International Airport has a wide variety of transportation options. Options include charter bus, shuttle services, limo, and taxi. Taxicabs Options:

Taxi service can be accessed at Terminal 1 on the east side of the baggage claim, outside doors 1-4. You may also access a cab at Terminal 3 on Zero level. There is a $2.00 fee on all fares originating at the airport. Tip: Some taxis do not accept credit card payment. Please check with the attendant ahead of time if you want to use a credit card.

Shuttle Service:

Harrah’s Hotel recommends using Bell Transportation services for your airport commute. Bell Transportation is located outside terminal 1, door 9 at the McCarran International Airport.
