Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine

OUCOM is very fortunate to be a part of a large Division 1 institution.  As a result, our club members are able to spend time shadowing team physicians during their weekly evaluation of the student athletes as well as spending time on the sidelines during home football games each fall.  Last spring OUCOM club members helped provide medical support at the Athens Marathon under the guidance of Dr. Jay Shubrook.  Students assisted with evaluating runners for heat related illness as they crossed the finish line.   Additionally, the club provided two days of medical support at a local dirt bike track for the Loretta Lynn Motocross Qualifier under the guidance of Dr. Jason Reed, a local orthopedic surgeon.  Students worked closely with both paramedics and Ohio University athletic training staff and as a result gained valuable experience working with other health professionals.
