What is your favorite aspect of AOASM? I love how everyone is so approachable! The physician who leads the medical team of a power 5 conference university is the same physician challenging you to a karaoke sing-off. There are no egos, just brilliant and awesome sports medicine docs!
What is your favorite AOASM conference memory? Do I have to pick just one?! I think my favorite memory comes from my very first conference in Louisville, KY. I was a second-year medical student. When I first arrived I was so wide-eyed and intimidated by all the accomplished people I was joining. Later in the week, we toured the Louisville Slugger factory and attended a minor league baseball game. There I was--essentially a nobody--surrounded by physicians who were leaders in their fields, and we were all just enjoying ourselves, learning how the MLB's most famous bats were made, and watching a game. That's when I realized what AOASM is really about. It isn't about being impressed or being impressive; it's about building relationships and making lifelong friends with other osteopathic physicians who have a passion for the care of athletes.
